PAKISTAN DOWN SYNDROME ASSOCIATION

Pakistan Down Syndrome Association (PDSA), headquartered in Karachi, serves as the country’s representative member of the esteemed Down Syndrome International (DSi) UK. As a vital part of the Asia Pacific Down Syndrome Federation (APDSF), PDSA is committed to advancing the rights and well-being of individuals with Down Syndrome in Pakistan. Recognized for its international collaborations, PDSA is a proud member of the World Patient Alliance (WPA) USA, the Rare Disease Foundation USA, and other global forums dedicated to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Who We Are

A trusted partner organization of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD), Government of Sindh.

PDSA operates as a trusted partner organization of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD), Government of Sindh. Together, they work tirelessly to ensure access to comprehensive rehabilitation services for children with Down Syndrome. Through initiatives in collaboration with DEPD, PDSA provides critical therapies, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, psychotherapy, and non-formal education, fostering an inclusive and empowering environment for children and their families.

About Abid Lashari

Abid Lashari is a dedicated disability rights advocate and the founder of PDSA and NDF Pakistan. Despite losing both hands in a childhood fire incident, he pursued a Master’s in Sociology and committed his life to empowering individuals with disabilities.

Through NDF, he has established multiple rehabilitation centers across Sindh, providing free therapies and support to over 400 children with intellectual disabilities. His advocacy extends globally, collaborating with organizations like Down Syndrome International (DSi) UK and the Asia Pacific Down Syndrome Federation (APDSF).

Driven by resilience and a vision of inclusion, Mr. Lashari continues to break barriers, proving that disability is not a limitation but an opportunity to inspire change.

To enhance the quality of life for individuals with Down Syndrome and their families through advocacy, awareness, education, and comprehensive rehabilitation services. PDSA is committed to fostering inclusivity, promoting equal rights, and providing access to specialized support to empower individuals with Down Syndrome to lead independent and meaningful lives.

Advocate for the rights and inclusion of individuals with Down Syndrome in society while raising public awareness about their abilities, challenges, and potential.

Train parents, caregivers, educators, and healthcare professionals to effectively support individuals with Down Syndrome in achieving their full potential.

Collaborate with government bodies, NGOs, and international organizations to influence policies and legislation that promote the rights and well-being of individuals with Down Syndrome.

Provide emotional, social, and financial support to families of individuals with Down Syndrome, enabling them to actively contribute to their loved ones’ growth and development.

Ensure long-term sustainability of PDSA’s initiatives through strategic partnerships, establishing Endowment Fund,  fundraising efforts, and capacity-building programs.
