Karachi: In observance of October as Down Syndrome Awareness Month, the Pakistan Down Syndrome Association (PDSA) organized a seminar in Karachi, in collaboration with the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD), Government of Sindh, National Bank of Pakistan, and CBM International. Under this year’s theme, “Improve Our Support System,” the event highlighted the importance of comprehensive support networks for children with Down syndrome, gathering families, supporters, and advocates to celebrate and acknowledge their abilities.
Mr. Abid Lashari, CEO of PDSA Pakistan, expressed his gratitude for the support and emphasized the organization’s dedication to advancing the well-being of children with Down syndrome. “PDSA is proud to be internationally recognized as member and country Representative of Down Syndrome International (dsi) and Asia Pacific Down Syndrome Federation (APDSF) for its commitment to this cause, and we will continue working to bring meaningful impact to the lives of children with intellectual disabilities, especially Down syndrome,” Mr. Lashari added.
The seminar’s chief guest, Mr. Tuaha Faruqui, Secretary of the Department of empowerment of persons with disabilities (DEPD), Government of Sindh, underscored the Sindh Government’s commitment to supporting initiatives for children with intellectual disabilities. “The DEPD is dedicated to providing resources for rehabilitation, empowerment, education, and skill development. We commend the valuable contributions of NGOs like PDSA and are committed to standing with them to bring hope and opportunity for children with Down syndrome in Sindh,” said Mr. Faruqui.
The seminar provided an invaluable platform for parents and stakeholders to discuss ways to improve support systems and enhance inclusion. Mr. Shariq Hussain Secretary BBSHRRDB, Mr. Iqbal Detho Chairman Sindh Human Rights Commission, Mr. Munawar Ali Mithiani Managing Director STEVTA, Mr. Ghanhwar Khan Laghari EX-Commissioner Larkana, Mr. Tariq Hussain Channar and PDSA partners concluded the event with a collective resolve to continue their efforts for the betterment of individuals with Down syndrome across Pakistan.
